Membership Award Nominations

Nominations are Now Being Accepted for the NSLS Membership Awards

There is no better way to recognize the exceptional efforts of your NSLS colleagues than with an NSLS Membership Award nomination. The awards honor many things including dedicated service, innovative ideas, and a strong spirit of collaboration. This is also a great way to celebrate your own accomplishments or those of your library. In previous years, self nominations have been common for both the Library of the Year and Innovation Award. Take a look at some previous year’s nominations. All NSLS member library staff and trustees, as well as NSLS staff are eligible to place nominations. Please be sure that your nominations are detailed and well-written. The award categories are described below.

Staff Member of the Year
Sponsored by CL Graphics

Presented to an individual library staff member from an academic, public, school, or special library in recognition of exceptional contributions to their library and the NSLS library community (e.g., generous sharing of ideas and experiences, or special contributions of time for projects or mentoring; participation in committees at System, state, or national level; motivates with leadership and creativity, etc.). In addition to the honor of receiving the award, the winner will also be given a monetary prize of $500.

Innovation Award
Sponsored by Franczek Radelet & Rose

Presented to a library in recognition of a unique new service or program, having a positive impact on service for library patrons, and viewed as forward-thinking in nature. This award will be given in the name of the sponsoring library or organization, and includes a monetary prize of $500.

Library of the Year

Presented to one NSLS library for creative and effective practices that support outstanding service and serve as a role model for other libraries (e.g., fostering of successful library and community partnerships; active participation in cooperative projects at System, state or national level; embraces change to help libraries stay vital, etc.). In addition to the honor of receiving the award, the library will also be given a monetary prize of $1,000.

Advocate of the Year

Presented to an individual library staff member, trustee, or volunteer from an academic, public, school, or special library for outstanding advocacy efforts. Academic, school, and special libraries should consider increased visibility of the library within the larger organization. (e.g., commitment to organizational or community outreach, effective sharing of the library story, political advocacy at the local, regional, state, and national level, etc.).

Lifetime Achievement Award

Designed to honor outstanding individuals who have made substantial contributions to the library profession and the NSLS community over the entire course of their professional life.

Marketing Award
Sponsored by Midwest Tape

Presented to a library in recognition of an outstanding marketing or public relations campaign, which effectively raised the profile of the library, increasing awareness of the library’s programs and services, and value to the served community. (e.g. fundraising for a new college library, promotion of a corporate library to the employees, a summer reading program, or an innovative community partnership). This award will be given in the name of the sponsoring library or organization, and includes a monetary prize of $500.

2009 Special Category: Video
Sponsored by The H.W. Wilson Company

Video has quickly become the communication medium of choice for teens and young adults, and a major part of the marketing mix to all age groups. Many libraries have already become video producers, greatly expanding their promotion arm.

All experienced and novice library video enthusiasts are invited to produce a video for submission for the NSLS Video Award. More information.
